Undoing the Machine Metaphor
Central to the machine metaphor are the concepts of prediction, control, and measurement. The focus of the machine metaphor is on external behavior and observable outcomes. When we do so we inevitably treat the world around us as if something is wrong with it, and in imposing our will upon it, we treat it like an object.
